Anyone who has served the US press, television, radio, news media, newsfilm and other American news organizations within or without the United States.

Any citizens or residents of the United States who have served the foreign press or other foreign news organizations.

The wives, children and other immediate dependents of those journalists.

Preference is given to American journalists serving abroad or who have served abroad in the past; a second level of priority is for non-American journalists working for American news organizations; and thirdly, non-Americans working for non-American organizations may qualify depending on the availability of funds.

The Fund grants up to $5,000, on a one-time basis, for reasons of emergency health needs or to support journalists who must evacuate themselves and/or their families from a country where they face significant danger, such as a death threat.
